Generic Drugs

What do we call generic drugs?

Generic drugs or simply generics are drugs produced and distributed without the use of a brand name. Generics contain all the active ingredients of the original medications. Therefore, they are considered to be equivalent to the brand name counterparts in their effects and the mechanism of their action.

That is why generics may be safely used instead of brand drugs without any change in dose, route of administration, efficacy, and intended use.

What's the difference between a generic medication and a brand name drug?

Though they are similar in their most important features there is a difference. You can see the difference more clearly in the table below:

Comparison points Identity Details
Active ingredient yes Active ingredients or "medicinal" are the most important components of the drugs. It's these elements that actually affect the organism, help to cure the disease, improve your health status. Manufactures produce both brand name drugs and generic drugs according to the same standards. So they have the same amounts of good quality medicinal ingredients.
Effect yes As long as the active ingredients are the same in the generic drugs and the brand name drugs the effect produced by them is the same, too.
Name no Generics are usually named by their active ingredient names. They cannot be manufactured under brand names which are copyright.
Shape and color no Shape and color of pills are also copyright, thus the shape and color of generic pills are different from those of the original brand drugs.
Price no Generic medications are usually considerably cheaper than the brand name drugs.

Why are generics cheaper than the brand name drugs?

The main reason for the lower price of generic medicines is that the creation of the generic drug requires fewer expenses. Therefore the generic drugs can be offered at a lower price and still maintain profitability.

Manufacturers of generic drugs are mainly able to avoid some costs that brand name pharmaceutical companies have to face. These are costs associated with the research and development of the drug, costs associated with obtaining regulatory approval (i.e. proving safety and efficacy of a drug) and marketing costs. Generic manufacturers do not have to spend money on drug discovery and instead reverse-engineer existing brand name drugs in order to manufacture bioequivalent versions.

Generic manufacturers do not bear the burden of proving the safety and efficacy of the drugs through clinical trials as long as they prove the generic drug's bioequivalence to the existing drug which already has approval.

And at last brand name pharmaceutical companies receive the large benefit of the marketing and advertising that goes into pushing the innovator drug. A new brand name drug has to prove itself in the eyes of the consumer, generic ones do not. Generic manufacturers are selling the drugs that have been on the market for usually a decade or more and do not need additional advertising. For the same reason, generic manufacturers also do not give away sample doses of their products to promote them.

The essential research, development and marketing costs that are incurred by the large pharmaceutical companies while introducing a new drug to the market are often called the reason for the high cost of new products. It's understandable: companies aim at recovering these expenses before the patent expires. Generic manufacturers do not bear these expenses and as bioequivalence testing and manufacturing cost relatively little they are able to offer the same drugs at much more attractive prices than the brand.

Where are the drugs you offer manufactured?

The drugs we offer are manufactured in India. All the orders are sent out directly by the manufacturer to make sure that the entire product list is in stock. It usually takes approximately two weeks for an order to be delivered but in some cases may take up to three weeks depending on your location.

Are your drugs FDA approved?

We offer the medications produced in India, so they are approved by the Indian Food and Drug Administration. All the necessary tests are performed by the manufactures both during and after production to show that every medication corresponds to the requirements for that product.
